The Romans are coming…
This term the topic for our Key Stage 2 children is the Romans. We are delighted to have Exeter Museum visiting us on 7th and 8th October to involve the children in a variety of Roman activities. The theme will be Invasion and Settlement and the children will be involved in a debate about the Roman Invasion and have the opportunity to re-enact a battle in costume. They will also get to study some artefacts from the period.
Ladywell Class will also be preparing Roman foods for a Market Day, making a paper mosaic to decorate the classroom and holding a Pottery Day to make Roman-style pots. Earlscombe Class will be making pottery mosaic tiles and making a mosaic from these, in their weekly art afternoons.
We welcome our new pupils in Foundation Year this term and hope they soon settle into school life in our caring but stimulating school environment.
We also welcome our new teacher, Miss Katie Evans, who is teaching in Ladywell Class. Mrs Lucy French is now teaching Dunwell children.
Music continues to be an important feature of School Life and the School is delighted to be one of six local Primary Schools taking part in a Country Wide Primary School Specialism project – specialising in Music and The Arts. We are now offering music lessons in 10 different instruments including Trumpet, Drums and Cello and 52 children have regular lessons at school (there are only107 children in the school in total!).
Lucy French is again running the Community Choir welcoming anyone of any age to enjoy a weekly sing-song with the occasional performance! This is a great chance for the children to sing with adults and lots of fun.
All of our children will get the opportunity to perform their various musical skills at our Harvest Festival Celebration on Tuesday October 13th – held in one of the Barns at Hillhead Farm courtesy of Mr and Mrs Johns. Key Stage 1 will be leading the celebration with whole school singing and readings.. It really is one of our School Year highlights.
