Heathy Living
Devon Healthy Schools Award
Ugborough Primary School has been awarded a Devon Healthy Schools Award. This is a major initiative in developing effective personal, social and health education and citizenship in Devon schools.
It is important that what we teach in the classroom is supported and reinforced by the ethos of the school itself as well as by families and the wider community.
In June 2007 we held a Healthy Living Week to increase the awareness of the children of how to be healthy – not just through diet and exercise but through all of the elements of Every Child Matters:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve through learning
- Make a positive contribution to society
- Achieve economic well-being
We have looked at many of the aspects of school life and how the school functions within the community and have considered the impact of the school on the health and well-being of everyone involved as far as possible.
There are 5 elements to the Healthy Schools Award as outlined by Devon Curriculum Services in association with Devon NHS.
We have considered each of these and prepared a policy document outlining how we at Ugborough School are working towards a positive and healthy lifestyle.
