In June 2007 Ugborough Primary School were selected to become one of only 34 schools in the country to take part in a National Primary Specialist Project. Our specialism is Music and we are delighted to be
working with 5 other primary schools in the Ivybridge area on collaborative projects connected with the specialism.
We already have a strong musical ethos and hope to build on the considerable expertise of both staff and children in the school. Almost 2/3 of our children learn a musical instrument including
Trumpet, Violin, Recorder, Flute, Piano, Saxophone, Guitar. We will be holding an Easter Concert this Spring to allow them the opportunity to show their talents.
In the Autumn Term 2008 the Year 5 and 6 children were thrilled to attend a Magic Flute workshop with Glyndebourne Opera and have backstage tours of TR2 in Plymouth. Spring 2009 sees the children of
Years 1 and 2 working with a Dance Specialist from TR2 for 4 weekly workshops to develop their music and movement skills. Mrs French is also starting a school based community choir for all ages which we are all looking forward to.
Other recent projects at school have included singing workshops and professional development with the Voices Foundation, djembe drumming, performances and theatre visits, video conferencing links with the
London Symphony Orchestra and working with students from Exeter University on composition skills.
The stage area in the new playground 2009. Due to be planted up in the Spring with trees and shrubs.
We have created a stage area with raised seating in our new play area creating space for performance and are planning to improve our ICT provision for sound recording and manipluation as well as making links with other curriculum subjects and extending multi-cultural links with our partner school in Uganda.
We are very excited about this project. Music is such a key part of everyone’s lives.
